Basic Betting and Types of Bets



Roulette Basic Betting TerminologyBasic bets in the game of roulette are as follows:

  • Straight Up - a bet on a single number, including zero, with the chip being placed directly on top of the number
  • Split - a bet on two separate, adjacent numbers, where the chip is placed on the dividing line between the numbers
  • Street - a bet on a line of three numbers, e.g. 1, 2, 3 / 4, 5, 6, where the chips is placed in the centre of the double line at the end line
  • Corner - a bet on any four numbers, where the chip is placed in the centre of the cross, where the lines intersect, e.g. 14, 15, 17 and 18
  • First Four - a bet on the numbers 0, 1, 2 and 3, where the chip is placed between 3 and 0
  • First Five - a bet on a double zero table, where the chip is placed between the zero boxes, playing out when the ball lands on either 0, 00, 1, 2 or 3
  • Double Street - a bet on six adjacent numbers on the roulette table, where the chip is placed on the double line next to the six numbers, intersecting the two nearest numbers, e.g. 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18, where the chip is placed on the edge between 18 and 21
  • Quatro - available on a number of roulette tables, where the consecutive numbers are broken in to quarters, which can be bet upon as required
  • Column - a bet on a whole column of numbers, placed in one of three squares at the bottom of the table layout, e.g. 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31 and 34
  • Dozen - a bet on 12 consecutive numbers, with boxes clearly available on the tables, marked as 1st 12 (1 to 12), 2nd 12 (13 to 24) and 3rd 12 (25 to 36)
  • Even Chance Bets - including odds / evens, and 1 to 18 / 19 to 36 boxes, located to the side of the roulette layout, where players lose half of their stake bet in the event that a zero number is spun
